Pixie Rowland passed peacefully Tuesday, September 12, 2023 with her son and daughter lovingly by her side. Born July 2, 1944 to Kenneth and Carla Hacking of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Pixie grew up alongside her brother Jack both playing and loving sports. Pixie especially excelled at equestrian, field hockey, and tennis. Growing up she attended The Northrup Collegiate School in Minneapolis. Pixie then went on to play tennis at The University of Minnesota, and continued an active role in the sport for most of her life. As an adult, she learned to play golf and quickly became one of the best female amateur golfers around. In her later years she took on pickle ball, and in true Pixie fashion, she mastered that sport as well.

When Pixie wasn’t playing golf or tennis, she was volunteering for any number of organizations from the Humane Society, to the local hospital, to hospice, or her church. She was very active with the Ponca City Citizens Police Academy and she graduated the FBI Citizens’ Academy with a few of her close friends. For several years Pixie ran the Ponca City office of the Oklahoma Blood Institute. She was a multi-gallon donor herself and influenced many people to donate blood to save lives. After (semi) retiring, Pixie worked in the golf shop at the Ponca City Country Club, where for many years, she played an integral role in running the annual Cherokee Strip Golf Tournament. Pixie’s community awards are too many to mention. She was always involved in making every community she lived in a better place.

Even though she was busy working, volunteering, and playing sports, she always made time for her family. Pixie is preceded in death by her parents and her brother. She is survived by her son, John Hacking of Sonoma County, California and her grandson, Jack Hacking, as well as her daughter, Susie Lye and son-in-law John Lye of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and her grandchildren Justin, Trevor, Carter, and Anna Lye. She will be missed by her family and many, many friends.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 27, from 3-5pm at the Ponca City Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society in Ponca City.
