Nancy Joyce Hursh (Smith, Lawrence, Skibbe) passed away November 8th in Weatherford, OK after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born May 20, 1937 to Wayne T. and Ethel [Stubblefield] Smith in Ponca City Oklahoma. As a young child she had six Shetland ponies. She entered every parade with them either pulling a covered wagon or cart. Following the parades, she and her father would set up a pony ring so children could ride them. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1955. She was in the girls’ quartet in Glee Club and attended Girl’s State in 1954. She attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College.

She married Larry Lawrence in 1955 and they were married for 13 years. They lived on Cape Cod, MA; Las Vegas, NV; Wichita, KS; Wellington, KS; and Ponca City, OK. She worked in Civil Service at Otis Air Force Base, MA; in banking in Las Vegas, Wichita, and Ponca City, in the oil industry in Wellington and Ponca City. They had two sons, David Paul and Andrew Wayne Lawrence.

She married Larry Skibbe in 1968 and they were married for 28 years until his death in 1996. They lived in Wellington, Newkirk, and Ponca City. She worked for the Ponca City Police Dept for 25 years as Administrative Secretary to the Chief, retiring in 2000. She was Secretary-Treasurer of the Northern Okla-Southern KS Peace Officers Assn. for 10 years, a member of the Ponca City Citizens Police Academy, member of the Oklahoma Sheriffs and Peace Officers Assn, and a life-time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She married Jack Hursh in 1998 and they were married 6 years until his death in 2004. She loved to travel, playing card and board games, working word search puzzles and spending time with her Senior Center friends. She loved her cats.

She is survived by her son David Lawrence and wife Sharon of Weatherford, OK; step-son Chris Skibbe of Winfield, KS; grandson Ryan Lawrence, wife Morgan and great granddaughters Braylie and Reagan of Topeka, KS; granddaughter Carrie Boelte-Atkinson, husband Cody, great granddaughters Dani and Oakley of Weatherford, and Gracie of Enid, OK; grandson Derek Lawrence and wife Maybree of Lawton, OK; and grandson Aaron Lawrence of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her son Andrew Lawrence, parents Wayne and Ethel Smith, granddaughter Rachel LeAnne Lawrence, and husbands Larry Skibbe and Jack Hursh.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

A funeral service for Nancy will take place on Monday, November 13th, 2 p.m., at Grace Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.gracememorialchapel. net
