Michael Gordon Meeks, 71, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, June 7 after a brief illness.

Memorial Service: 10:30 on Saturday, June 25 at First Christian Church, 210 N. 5th Street, Ponca City, OK.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ponca City Airport Aviation Boosters Club, 2401 N Waverly ST, Suite 15, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Michael was born in Ponca City, OK on January 21, 1951 to Gordon Eugene and Lovina Ruth Nolan Meeks, the second of three sons. He grew up on Blackard Lane and attended Woodlands Elementary School, East Junior High and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1969.

In High School he played cornet in the marching band, guitar in a garage band, was a cheerleader on the schools co-ed squad and had a great time hanging out with buddies who became life long friends.

He attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva and the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman studying Architecture, Graphic Arts and Product Design.

While at OU he met his future wife, Ann Sivils. They were married in1971. He was a devoted father to his son, Casey and daughter, Kara. He had a special bond with his grandson, Andrew, whom he helped raise.

Mike had the “gift of gab”, a born salesman.

In Jr. High, Mike worked the gas pumps at his dad’s CONOCO service station.

In High School, he sold shoes at Brown’s Shoe Store.

As Annie & Mike started their family life, Mike continued selling teak furniture in Norman, became an office design group project lead in Tulsa OK, and sold office furniture in Denver CO.

While in Evergreen CO, he developed the original QR Code micro dot label that could be laser etched on surgical instruments or applied to any product. These dot labels were marketed worldwide.

Mike was a very creative artist as depicted in his drawings, paintings and sculptures.

He was interested in anything dealing with future technologies in aviation, energy and other forms of transportation. His aircraft hangar looked like a mad scientist’s lab.

Mike loved the Lord and enjoyed his daily quiet time each morning. In church he served as a Deacon and as a Bible Study leader..

He was later married to Peggy Elenburg Jacobs of Ponca City OK.

He is survived by his son, Casey (Talia) of Brighton, CO, and daughter Kara Howard (Brad) of The Woodlands, TX, grandchildren Andrew Meeks, Brian Meeks, Avery Meeks, his brothers Daniel (Terri) and Randy (Carole) and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their profound thanks to all his Ponca City friends who supported him throughout his life.
