In Loving Memory of Joseph Powell Purvis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable man, Joseph Powell Purvis, who departed this world on September 26th, 2023, at the age of 66. Joseph, affectionately known to his loved ones as Joe, touched the lives of many and will forever be etched in our hearts and memories.

Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Joe was a devoted husband to Elsbeth Purvis and a loving father to his sons, Thomas and Alex. He was not only a dedicated family man but also a source of unwavering support and affection to his cousins, Meredith and Sidney, and his nieces, Andrea and Tracie.

Joe was a man of many passions and interests. Among them was watching the Oklahoma State University teams compete. His enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his exceptional talent in the kitchen, where he delighted family and friends, creating unforgettable moments of warmth and togetherness.

In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed the great outdoors, where he pursued his love for hunting and fishing. He also discovered immense happiness in coaching Little League and relished every minute spent watching and coaching his son’s games, his pride and enthusiasm boundless.

Joe also had a passion for collecting. It started with coins but extended to classic cars, reflecting his fascination with history.

Beyond his hobbies, Joe was a pillar of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand and give back to those around him. His commitment to service was exemplified by his membership in AMBUCS, a testament to his enduring dedication to improving the lives of others.

Joe’s dedication to education shone brightly through his impressive academic achievements, earning him three degrees from Oklahoma State University: forestry, accounting, and an MBA, showcasing his unwavering pursuit of knowledge and personal growth.

Joe Powell Purvis was a loving husband, father, cousin, uncle, and friend. His warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Though he may have departed this world, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, and his memory will be cherished for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Ponca City AMBUCS in Joe’s honor, ensuring his spirit of giving endures.

A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at a later date.
