Francis “Sonny” Everett Sage, former resident of Ponca City, passed away March 2, 2022 after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Sonny was born in Canandaigua, NY on May 5, 1941, to Francis E. and Marie B. Sage. He graduated from Victor Central School in 1959. Sonny went on to Clarkson College of Technology (now Clarkson University) in Potsdam, NY, graduating with BS, MS & PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of several honorary societies.

Sonny and the former Mona Kraai were married in Victor, NY, Sept 9, 1960, where they grew up and were classmates from kindergarten. They spent 10 years in Potsdam, NY before moving to Ponca City, OK in 1969. In 2019 they moved to Edmond, OK.

Sonny retired from Conoco in 1996 after 27 years with Conoco in Research and Development. After retirement he was active in the Ponca City community volunteering for several organizations. Especially important to him were the Opportunity Center and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program.

He and Mona loved to travel and have been on all seven continents. New Zealand was his favorite place. Gardening, canning, fishing, traveling, and being with family were his favorite things.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia Gullace. He is survived by his wife Mona of the home; daughters Ginger (Joe) Castleberry of Edmond, OK; and Michele (Ron) Walenciak of Ponca City; son Mike (Jill) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Lauren (Thomas) Vaught, Hunter Castleberry and fiancé Shea Linse, Kyle Sage and Adrienne (Kurtis) Palmer; greatgrandson Vander McLeod Vaught; nieces Fran (John) Snavely of Kill Devil Hills, NC; Lisa Bessen of Hampton, VA; and nephew Don Gullace (Dawn Ttaficanti) of Victor, NY.

A Celebration Reception of Sonny’s Life is planned for Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 2pm – 4pm, at the Carolyn Renfro Event Center, 445 Fairview, Ponca City, OK.
