Body

Ethel Marie Springer, 95, passed into eternal life on September 21, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. If you knew her before the illness, you know how devastating this disease really is. She was no doubt met at Heaven’s Gates by her husband of 71 years, Leonard, who has been waiting for her to join him since February of this year. Ethel was born January 28, 1925 to Harold and Verna Pray in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where she and her younger brother were raised. After graduation from Ponca City High School, she worked for WBBZ Radio Station, as a dispatcher at the police station, and phone operator at “Ma Bell!” She met and married Leonard Springer in 1949 and they raised their two children, Harold and Sharon, and one foster son, Rocky Holt. Ethel loved reading, riding horses, reading, watching her soap operas, reading, playing her harmonica, reading, bickering with her husband, and reading, not necessarily in that order. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert Pray, and husband, Leonard Springer. She leaves behind her loving family; son Harold Springer (Karen) of Oklahoma City; daughter Sharon Springer of Guthrie; granddaughters Andrea Hanson (Josh) of Centennial, Colorado; Leah Long (Kyle) of Guthrie; greatgranddaughter, Dani Johnson of Centennial, Colorado; and her amazing family of caregivers and friends at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to whom we will be forever grateful.

Ethel was loved by many and will be greatly missed, especially by her beloved dog, Jewel.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please take the time to visit, call, or write a note to a loved one or friend in a care facility, and thank the caregivers for all they do.

Visitation will be held from 1-6 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Matthews Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, 2020 at Waterloo Road Church of Christ. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, OK.
