She was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church. As a teenager, she occasionally played the organ for an adult Bible class. She enjoyed helping with the annual Christmas Mart, making items with her mother, helping with sales, and making sanctuary banners.

In 2006, she married Robert G. Howell, who preceded her in death in 2020. She retired in the spring of 2008 and traveled in a fifth wheel for 6.5 years before once more coming back home to Ponca City to stay where she loved the people.
