Donald “Don” Hicks passed away on August 6, 2022 at the age of 77, at home in Ponca City, Oklahoma. His battle with cancer showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Don came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

Don was born in Redlands, California on July 24, 1945 to Letha Brewer-Hicks and William A. Hicks. He graduated from Ponca City Senior High School in 1964, then attended barbering school, becoming a license barber in 1965. Don served in the Army National Guard in Fort Polk, Louisiana, from 1964 - 1970. On January 12, 1967 and October 23, 1973 respectively, he welcomed his tow wonderfuf sons, who he loved dearly. On August 11, 1987, he married Cathy Lynn, who was the most important person of his life.

Don will be remembered as a respected Little League baseball coach. He had the privilege to coach numerous children, including his own, and helped them grow to love the game. In the last few years he had great joy in being able to watch his great-grandson, Cooper, play the sport he had much love for. Don was an avid coon hunter as well. He attended many rewarding coon hunts, including the 57th Annual American Redbone Days, winning the All Red Championship Hunt in June of 2020.

Don was a spiritual man and loved inviting anyone to church that he came across. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and anyone who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife Cathy Hicks; his children Matt Hicks and wife Sheli, Benny Hicks and Desiree Gottlob, Steve Stark, Cody Stark, and Tracey Chapman; his brother Dale Hicks and wife Donetta; his sister Peggy Hannum; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. he is preceded in death by his parents Letha and William.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 15th, at the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church of Ponca City. Family and friends are welcome to join at 12:00 pm for lunch prior to the service. Pastor Jamey Wylie will officiate. Flowers, donations, and condolences may be offered at 2230 N.
