Don David Duren of Fort Collins, Colorado (formally of Ponca City, Oklahoma) passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2023, with his family by his side. Don was born in Chaffee, Missouri and moved around to several locations with his family because his dad worked for the railroad. He graduated from high school in Springfield, Missouri. He attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, Don took a job in Ponca City working for Conoco Oil Company where he worked until his retirement.

He married Brenda Kinder in 1981. They had a son named Chet and a daughter named Lacee. Together they had a son named Kyle which completed their family.

Don coached Kyle and Lacee’s soccer teams for several years. He was able to attend every wrestling match Kyle participated in and supported all the children in their activities.

Upon retirement, Don found a passion for volunteering. For over 20 years, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, being part of several homes built in Ponca City. Additionally, he volunteered for the AARP Tax Preparers at the Ponca City Library for several years.

Some of his favorite things to do were spending time at Grand Lake boating with family and friends. One of the things he enjoyed the most was riding his Harley with Brenda as they explored all the lower 48 states and Canada. Don and Brenda’s good friends, Brad and Rita Baker, joined them on many of these rides creating unforgettable memories.

He is survived by his wife Brenda, son Kyle and Marissa Duren, daughter Lacee Alexander, and the love of his life, his granddaughter, Madison Duren. Madison was his “little munchkin”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vi and Ken Duren, brother Fred Duren, son Chet Duren, and his inlaws George and Lorene Kinder.

Don requested no formal services. The family will honor that and will have a private celebration of life at a later date.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out during this difficult time.

Memorial contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity in Ponca City in Don’s name.
