Dennis Lee Backhaus, age 68, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was born on November 13, 1954 in Fort Meade, Maryland to Marvin and Dorothy Backhaus. After his dad retired from the military, the family made their home in Newkirk, OK.

Dennis found joy in golfing, boating, water skiing, and camping and he especially took pride in maintaining a meticulous yard even a professional would be jealous of.

Dennis made his way as a welder, beginning at Continental Carbon working 20+ years there. He then moved on to J.H. Kelly, Colgate Palmolive, and Holly Frontier, retiring from Holly in April of 2019.

Dennis and Glenda Anderson Hall were married on August 16, 1999 in Ponca City, OK. Between the two, they had four children, four grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Dennis is survived by his wife of 23 years, Glenda Anderson Backhaus, his daughter, Amanda Backhaus, and her two daughters, Kassidy and Kendall Parcher, step-children Jason Hall, Amber Clardy and her husband, Carlton Clardy, and their two children, Micah Hall and Kiara Clardy, and great granddaughter, Malaysia Frederick. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Leaming, and his brother, Robert Backhaus (Penny) as well as numerous friends and colleagues, along with the Stolhand Wells family.

Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Justin Wayne Backhaus, father, Marvin Eugene Backhaus, and step-dad, Les Leaming.

There will be no viewing or formal services; however, the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
