David Lee Peckenpaugh, born March 16, 1956, passed on to be reunited with our good Lord, creator, and savior on February 19, 2023. He was the youngest son of Charles Zane Peckenpaugh and June Maxcine Peckenpaugh, both who have passed on.

David attended McCord Grade School and graduated Ponca City High School in 1975.

For all of us who were fortunate to have known David, we all agree that he was a most unique, kind, gentle and loving spirit. He will be missed by us all.

David enjoyed educating himself throughout his life. He read volumes of encyclopedias and read newspapers every day. He was always ready and pleased to engage in non argumentative conversation with anyone on almost any topic. David had an unusually peaceful nature. He was thoughtful, not judgmental, and always had an open mind.

David had a unique ability for abstract thought. As a young boy he developed a love for baseball and collecting baseball cards. Over the years he collected thousands of baseball cards. He kept them neatly arranged by teams on his shelves. He had the ability to remember statistics on the backs of the cards and developed games for himself to employ the cards. At the age of nine or ten, in the mid-sixties, he created for his own personal enjoyment what many of us today would call fantasy sports. David would spend countless hours with his baseball cards arranged on the living room floor playing complete games based upon the statistics on the back of the baseball cards. None of us understood at that time but looking back I now understand that he was way ahead of us. The games were complicated and had to be played precisely, so precisely in fact that I think he could have come close to predicting the outcome of any given game.

David was never a Boy Scout, but throughout his entire life he naturally exhibited all twelve attributes of the Scout Law, trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. David had a strong belief in our creator and the concept of forgiveness and faith. He was an innocent spirit and he prayed for others every day.

As an adult David became quite skillful at chess and was a master at crossword puzzles. During his last years he enjoyed playing darts, constantly challenging himself. David enjoyed movies, especially those with historical content. His favorite music was classic rock and some good ole country.

David passed peacefully while singing with his niece, Chandler, while briefly hospitalized in the Ponca City Hospital, the same hospital where he entered this world. We are thankful that he did not linger or suffer long.

David is survived by Gail, his older sister and his older brother, Gary. He is also survived by his cat and best friend “Wimpy”. He had several close friends. He told me recently that most of them have passed. He has nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of us loved David and we are all thankful to have had him in our lives. We will cherish memories of him and look forward to seeing him again on the other side.
