Body

Daniel Larry Shannon, 74, of Blackwell, Oklahoma went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on June 5, 2020. Larry had been receiving dialysis for the last few months due to kidney failure.

He was at his daughter’s home in Burkburnett, Texas where family members surrounded him with their love until he went to heaven.

Larry was born on September 20, 1945 at Rock Penn in Blocker, Oklahoma. He was the son of Opal Endsley and “Bud” Shannon, aka “Ole Man” of Blocker, Oklahoma who preceded him in death.

He grew up with his brothers Clif Shannon and Tom Shannon, sister, Debbie Endsley, step-brothers Jerry, Rusty and Donnie Nave. Blocker is a small rural community composed of many family members. Nadine Shannon and Bob Trolinger were two of his aunt and uncles who watched him and his brothers grow up in this community.

Larry married Marlene Shannon of McAlester, Oklahoma on November 6, 1973. They celebrated their 46th anniversary last November. Larry and Marlene had four children between them, “Bobby” Shannon of Wichita Falls, Tx., Annetti Grinnell of Burkburnett, Tx., Jody Dozier of McAlester, Ok, and Kenneth Shannon of Newkirk, Ok. Larry was preceded in death by his sons, “Bobby” Shannon and Kenneth Shannon. Larry has nine grandchildren and their companions, Laura Baker, Ashlee Shannon, Isaac Rubio, Daniel Crouthamel, Casey Grinnell and Ashlye Elliot, Cody Grinnell and Destiny Bider, Caitlin Stubblefield and Dylan Stubblefield, Cody Dozier, and Evan Dozier. He had eight great grandchildren, Errik Grinnell, Jaec Grinnell, Zoey Stubblefield, Sophie Elliot, Bransyn Bider, Jacob, Jason, and Jalee Levay. Larry’s brother and sister-in-laws, Bobby and Gail Dozier of Bartlesville, Ok., Anita and Bud Smith of McAlester, Ok.; daughter-in-law, Liz Crouthamel; son-in-law, Allen Grinnell.

Larry had many friends, but some were very close to him. Kit and Mitzi Newman; Gene Newman, Howard Floyd, and Ivan from Blackwell, Ok. He also left behind his most adored pets, Mike and Dixie, which I know will miss him as much as he misses them (They may lose some weight without all the extra treats he gave them :).

Larry’s passion was being a dozer operator. He learned this skill by working for his father’s business, “Shannon Dozer Service”. He would still be operating a dozer if his health would have allowed it. He also had a career as a draftsman for Conoco in Ponca City, Ok. where he eventually retired. Larry enjoyed being around family and friends, welding, woodworking, fishing, and building anything from scratch, especially for others, during his retirement years.

A special thanks to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texas, and especially his nurses by his bedside, Ashlee Shannon, Caitlin Stubblefied, and Rachel Nava.
