Charles “Corky” Silvy passed away at his home in Ponca City on Saturday, June 27, 2020. He was 89 years old. Corky was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on April 15, 1931 to his parents, John Silvy and Jewel “Minnie Pearl” Silvy.

At the age of 14, he worked at his parents IGA store delivering groceries. Corky graduated from Ponca City High School in 1949. Corky was a great athlete playing football and baseball for Po-Hi. After graduation, Corky attended OSU for a year before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas as a Staff Sergeant. He returned to Ponca City after being honorably discharged on November 1, 1954.

Corky married Nancy Dickson on May 2, 1954. They made their home in Ponca City. He returned to OSU graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He then worked for the City of Ponca City as the superintendent of the water and light department.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, two daughters, Gwyn Silvy Downey of Durham, NC and Linda Kay Silvy Herard and her husband Tony Herard of Crane, Texas, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewel “Minnie Pearl” Silvy, his father, John Silvy and brother, Bob Silvy.

A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Hope Chapel at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
