Billie Edwards passed away August 29, 2020, in Oklahoma City. He was born April 12, 1929, in Ponca City, OK. He entered the US Army in 1946 and served as a Palace Guard in Seoul, Korea. Upon returning home, he joined the Active National Guard and was called back into active duty and served another tour in Korea before receiving an honorable discharge.

He returned to Ponca City and served with the Ponca City Fire Department until moving to Del City in 1966. He then went to work at Tinker Air Force Base and as soon as possible became a firefighter and fire inspector and was awarded Firefighter of the Year. He retired in 1972. Billie enjoyed square dancing and was a member of Central District Square Dance Associates and participated in square dance exhibitions. He loved wood carving and attended many workshops in Branson, MO. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trap shooting. He loved helping others and his dogs. His priorities were God, Country and Family. He was a former elder and member of Del City Christian Church before joining the Baptist Church. He was a member of Waterloo Road Baptist Church in Edmond for many years prior to joining Quail Springs Baptist Church. Billie enjoyed being at home with his family, as well as time at church and trips to Branson. He was preceded in death by his parents, late wife, Yvonne; son, Richard; 3 grandchildren, a brother and sister. After the death of his son, he became a member of POMC, Parents of Murdered Children. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Edwards of the home; 4 children, Valerie McClellan and husband Chuck, Jacque Clark and husband Ronnie, Billie Edwards and wife Gayle, and Kerry Edwards and wife Sheryl; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great, great grandchildren. Thank you to many friends like Charlie and Carol Downs. His special neighbors, Billy and Nikki Burton and Fred and Brittany Seraj. And of course, his caregivers, particularly Carol and Rebecca. Viewing will be at Smith & Kernke on N. May Ave. Thursday, September 3, 2020, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Quail Springs Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Contributions may be made in Billie’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to which he was a monthly supporter.
