June 4, 1936 - March 3, 2023

Ponca City — Betty Maxine, the daughter of Naomi (Mayes) and Carroll Case was born June 4, 1936 in rural Woods County, OK. She and her brother Bobbie (Bob) were raised on a farm west of Alva, OK. She passed away on March 3, 2023 with her family in attendance. She was 86 years old, 8 months and 27 days.

She attended Farry Schools graduating in 1954. After high school graduation, Betty married Jimmie (Jim) Davison and together they had two children, Anthon and Arlene. They were blessed with three grandchildren, Christopher Davison and Carol and Kevin Stauffer. Betty worked at JC Penney’s and then in the banking industry in Alva, Oklahoma for several years. In 1988, she married Morgan Harris and moved to Freedom, Oklahoma to join him in operating the Freedom Hardware Store. In addition to Morgan, Betty gained three daughters, Jane, Paula, and Andra and nine additional grandchildren: Matt, Adam, and Shannon Adair; Arista, Erica, and Morgan (Sonny) Welch; and Dana, Amy, and Tacia Vogt. Morgan and Betty blended their families and shared many years of family Christmases, birthdays, weddings, and new babies. Betty always enjoyed having the grandchildren around and was the most happy when the kids wanted to go bumming. It really didn’t matter where they went—to see the ostriches, out to the Caves, to the notorious dinosaur dig, or anywhere in between— as long as she was able to spend time with them. Betty moved to Ponca City in 2012 following Morgan’s sudden death at the end of 2011. Betty, known to many as Aunt Betty or Grandma Betty, didn’t meet many strangers and always had a knack for making everyone feel like family. That did not change when she moved to Ponca City. She became active in the First Christian Church and there she embraced and was embraced by many. Continuing to be Aunt Betty to her Davison nieces and nephews was a gift she always cherished.

Betty’s memory will be treasured by her children Anthon Davison, Arlene (Kim) Stauffer, Jane (Bryce) Adair, Paula (Johnny) Fuqua, and Andra (Don) Smith along with her brother Bob Case and niece Natalie (Tim) Gifford. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Christopher Davison, Carol Stauffer, Kevin (Nick) Stauffer-Rossi, Matt (Kasey) Adair, Adam (Amy) Adair, Shannon (Tyler) Wood, Arista (Dusty) Lopp, Erica (Tyler) Detgen, Morgan Welch, John Russell (Nicole) Fuqua, Katie (Kevin) Irwin, Dana (Chuck) Campbell, Amy (Jeff) Knuth, and Tacia (Chris) Jamison. Her blessings continued with 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Others she cherished were her extended Case, Davison, and Harris families and her many friends. A much anticipated heavenly reunion with husband Morgan Harris, parents Carroll and Naomi Case, and in-laws Frank and Ruth Davison and Reece and Pauline Harris is certainly in full swing.

Betty reached for the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control— acknowledging that she was only human and allowing herself the grace to try again another day. Those who knew her best can easily say she reached the “fruit” far more often than she fell short.
