Alvin Leroy “Chico” Thompson, 74, of Arkansas City passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Westview of Derby. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dennis Voth will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Alvin was born July 21, 1948, to Alvin B. and Questa L. (Wilson) Thompson in Red Rock, OK. He grew up and attended school in Ponca City, graduating from Ponca City High School in 1966. After high school, Alvin was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged in 1971.

On January 6, 1984, he married Janese Lowrie in Arkansas City where the couple made their home. Alvin worked as a conductor and brakeman for Santa Fe Railroad for many years until his retirement in 2008. Alvin had a passion for doing yardwork, gardening flowers, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of the Spencer Ralston Post #1254 V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife Janese Thompson of the home; children Kelly Borror and wife Sharon of Arkansas City; Jamie Thompson of Wichita; Kiley Miller and husband Kent of Arkansas City; Joseph Thompson of Arkansas City; brothers Danny Price of Wichita; Chuck Price and wife Chasity of Ponca City; sisters Rebecca Boling of Ponca City; Cora O’Brien of Ponca City; Karen Coffman of Newkirk; grandchildren Harlee Bullard, Brylee Thompson, Miley Thompson, Taylor and Tyler Haragan, Jamison Thompson, Mikeal Segree, Korbin Thompson, Anthony Brannon and wife Cheyenne, Gehrig Borror and wife Madison, Drake Borror, and numerous nieces, nephews, and greatgrandchildren.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife Karen Thompson.
