The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week #15 for the 2022-2023 school year was presented to Po-Hi senior Ethan Meyer. “Ethan is a very impressive young man,” said PCPS Superintendent Shelley Arrott. “All four years of his time at Po-Hi, Ethan has been highly involved in Career Tech and Business Professionals of America, the leading Career and Technical Student Organization. In addition to his classes at Po-Hi, Ethan attends Pioneer Technology Center in the afternoon and is enrolled in the BITE-IT program, taking Cybersecurity, and also serves as a student ambassador at PTC.”

“To say that Ethan is highly involved in the Po-Hi Career Tech program is an understatement. Mr. Warlick shared, ‘Ethan is the backbone of our BPA and BITE Print Shack. He goes above and beyond inside and outside the classroom, and he is my go-to student if I need anything!’ Mr. Warlick was certainly on point with that statement! Ethan runs the BPA Print Shack, and designs and creates all kinds of projects with the technologybased BITE equipment to support not only BPA, but various other organizations for a very minimal fee to help cover the cost of materials. For the BPA fundraiser, he engraved cups to sell, he printed National Honor Society pins for members to wear at events, and he printed the Po-Hi Steppers’ booklets for Senior Night. Mrs. Marsh-Smith, his English IV teacher, shared that Ethan even did the binding for 90 percent of the senior publish- ing project last fall, thereby saving a lot of his classmates the time and expense of having to get the projects bound, which was a major cost savings PLUS his expedience saved a lot of students from turning in their projects late. Mrs. Jolly also added that Ethan is an invaluable asset to our department.”

“But, that’s not all! Ethan runs video for the football and basketball video livestreams for all of the community to enjoy, both home and away. He is also a Boy Scout and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout Project, Ethan was responsible for the project on the front lawn of the Howell at Po-Hi. This project consisted of tearing out overgrown or dead foliage and replacing with brick street pavers that match the bricks on Overbrook. He coordinated this project with PCPS and Sober Brother, and he recruited and led a team of Po-Hi students to help. This project changed the landscape and beauty of the Howell front lawn and brought back the beauty of our historic school! Additionally, the timing of this award could not be better because you are being recognized for your rank of Eagle Scout at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor tomorrow, Feb. 10, 2023!”

“Ethan, I first got acquainted with you when you reached out last year about doing the Howell lawn project. I was so impressed with your vision and stages of follow-through at all points of the project. The Howell front lawn looks better than it has looked since I first saw the lawn in 1990. It takes lots of manpower to keep foliage areas pruned, trimmed, and weeds at bay. Even with the most precise landscaping, the Howell lawn looks more dignified and statelier than it has ever looked, in my opinion.”

“I happened to know that you are obsessed with all things Disney! Your plans after graduation are to attend Cowley County for a bit, and then apply for Disney University for on-the-job experience and immersion into the World of Disney, which will allow you to work in frontline roles at the resort and continue with online courses through your university enrollment. You told me your career goal is to be involved with cybersecurity for the Walt Disney Company.”

“You present yourself with great professionalism, and every time I see you, it’s a firm handshake and warm welcome. This is very adult and dignified way to present yourself. I knew when I first met you that you are a remarkable young man, and as I have gotten to know you, I have learned that you live and exemplify the characteristics of the Wildcat Way in an unsurpassed manner. Not only do you devote yourself to serving others, you are one of the kindest humans I know.”

“Ethan, you are so goal and service-oriented, driven, helpful, and you conduct yourself in the most ethical and professional manner. Without doubt, you have the skills and discipline to have an accomplished life and career. I will always follow your endeavors and achievements and all of us are blessed to have you impact Ponca City High School and our community and lead by example. You are truly an ambassador for all of us, and your family, school family, and community are excessively proud of you. Thank you so much for inviting me to your Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony tomorrow afternoon. I would not miss it for the world, and I am honored to attend the ceremony!”

Each week a new “Wildcat of the Week” will be selected from the nominations of TEAM Radio listeners and viewers. Winners receive a free BBQ sandwich meal from Danny’s BBQ Head Quarters and a T-shirt from Boss Custom Tees. PCPS will make the presentation weekly at Po-Hi.
