An end of the year event called “New Year’s Eve Silent Disco will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 9 pm at the Ponca City Country Club. This event exists to celebrate and benefit the Survivor Resource Network, Inc. (SRN).

SRN is an organization that serves as a community resource and response agency for domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and trafficking survivors.

A silent disco is event where attendees listen to music on wireless headphones as opposed to a speaker system. These events give the appearance of people dancing without music to observers without headphones, hence the “silent” portion of the name. Silent discos have proven to be a popular option for music festivals to operate past noise curfew hours.

This is the first year for an event of this type; as well as the first year for event organizer Cheyenne Harbeson to be in charge of something of this scale and importance.

“A Silent Disco is a misnomer. It’s not silent, it’s aimed to be all inclusive to people who enjoy loud music in their ears and also everyone who wants to chat with friends or order food/drink at a normal voice level,” said Harbeson. “ It lets you dance and be free to three different stations of music to fit everyone’s taste via Bluetooth headphones.”

The goal for this event is to have an end of the year benefit that also gives a safe environment for people to let loose and enjoy their evening.

“I happily spoke to the SRN when planning the event on how to proceed with benefiting them while also not taking any light away for the annual and exceptional Purple Affair held in the beginning months of each year,” said Harbeson.

SRN’s Purple Affair event is their biggest fundraiser, and incredibly important to maintaining their level of care to every survivor they can help.

“We agreed to have proceeds from each ticket sold go to the SRN and also a specially decorated table with a donation box if guests would also like to contribute at the event,” said Harbeson.

The New Year’s Eve Silent Disco has already received sponsorship from several local businesses including KR Automation, Continental Carbon, Kenny Wheeler Farmers Insurance, Lauren ‘LC’ Meador Coldwell Banker Select, Scott and Ann Jackson, KW Select Ponca City, Vortex Alley Brewing, Russ and Tracy Didlake, Stuteville Ford, Provider Practice Management, Rod Alexander, Scott Construction, Sky’s the Limit Creation, Batter Than Good Baking Co., and The Iron Plate.

Tickets are $30 at the door and the evening will include food, specialty drinks, champagne, marquee letters, photo booths, and a permanent jewelry business called LINX and Love by Sasha will be available as well.

The theme for the event is cocktail and it is open to the public.

Event organizers heavily push for everyone to be safe, have a ride home, contact a cab company or stay sober. Having fun also comes with immense responsibility to yourself and everyone around you.

Organizers plan to stream via Facebook on Friday, Dec. 30 during the decorating around 4 pm, they will stream again on Saturday when the event starts 9 pm.
