Secondary students from Ponca City High School, East Middle School and West Middle School celebrated You Matter Week Feb. 27 through March 3.

Christa Goodale, resource counselor for PCPS, said, “When people come together for a common cause, amazing things happen.”

“We received community donation of both time and funds from Daylight Donuts, New Life Trails Ministry, Om Yoga Studios, the Doodle Academy and even a group of retired Po-Hi teachers.”

“They all showed up to help our students remember and truly feel like they matter. The Po-Hi Student Council and the members of the Bring Change 2 Mind Club at the high school also came together to make the week unforgettable.”

The Kindness Clubs and Student Council at both East and West worked hard to create beautiful displays around the schools as well.

“Connections were made, students learned about healthy coping skills and grounding techniques as well as learning and realizing that they are not alone in their struggles with mental health, trauma, and the emotional stress that lives on after the global COVID-19 pandemic,” said Goodale.

“Many teachers have also reached out to express their gratitude for the space to be able to share struggles and get vulnerable about how they are coping through their own hardships.”

Goodale said she also received an outpouring of support and people wanting to join the cause in creating more activities like this throughout the year.
