On Saturday, July 24, 2021 Matt Pinnell, the 17th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Oklahoma, spoke to the group about liberty, achievements of the 2021 legislative session, and his vision for the future of Oklahoma. Pinnell spoke about small business and the need for them to stay in business, our freedoms, the constitution, and how Oklahoma is a second amendment sanctuary state. Pinnell shared information he received from a pastor at a constitutional conference he attended: “Liberty and freedom were handed off to us by the greatest generation. We must be aware of what is going on in our nation and what we are handing off to our next generation: unsustainable debt, a culture in decline, defunding the police and injustice.”

The need to prioritize career and technology education, Oklahoma is in the top ten in our nation for our citizens to learn a trade. Pinnell said, “We do not need more taxes, we need more tax payers.” The need to grow our state the right way and push back on Federal government growth. Many more topics were discussed and there was a Q and A session with the group attending.

“OK2A is a liberty group and we concentrate on the second amendment as it is the only one that gives the rest of the constitution teeth,” said Terry Thompson, Kay County Chapter Coordinator and Vice Chair of the Kay County GOP.

Attending the meeting were Senator Bill Coleman and Representative Ken Luttrell. Alan Avery, the new Noble County Chapter Coordinator said, “OK2A supports the second amendment and is very active in all of our liberties, that is why I decided to step up and take the reins in Noble County.” Amanda Suprobo, the Kay County Republican Party Director of Special Projects and leader of the Kay County Young Conservatives, was in attendance as well.

The 2021 Legislative Session was successfully concluded with a great response from the governor and legislators. Fifteen bills were signed into law with the support of bill authors, supporters, and the advocacy of OK2A members. Six bills are directly related to fire arms. Nine bills are liberty bills, such as prohibiting the teaching of critical race theory in schools, no state mandate for masks or vaccine requirements in schools, religious institutions cannot be declared non-essential, etc.

In January 2020, Kay County OK2A was the fourth chapter in Oklahoma. Now there are more than 55 chapters throughout the state. Non-members are welcome to attend and each meeting is an opportunity to learn how to help preserve your second amendment rights and become a supporting member of the state’s leading advocate for the second amendment rights.

The Oklahoma Second Amendment Association has been in existence for ten years. The local association meetings are held the fourth Saturday every month at 12:00 noon at the New Hope Christian Fellowship, 401 South Lincoln, Ponca City. A second meeting held every month is a “mini meeting”, the second Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Mary’s Grill, 114 East Grand, Tonkawa.
