Tree limb debris from the October ice storm is being put to good use by North Central Region (NCR) Fisheries personnel to create fishing structures under the new heated crappie dock at Lake Ponca.

NCR Fisheries personnel contacted the City of Ponca City to make certain it was okay to remove downed tree limbs and to collect enough to install a brush pile beneath the fishing dock.

“While we usually build spider blocks or cut down cedar trees, this project was unique because we utilized down limbs left over from the recent ice storm,” said NCR Fisheries Supervisor Ashley Nealis. “It was nice to turn a negative into a positive and capitalize on a large supply of available woody structure.”
