AMTRAK NEWS

Give your input on the future of freight and passenger rail in Oklahoma. Visit the website at www.ok2021railplan.com by Aug. 26 to share your comments.

Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer train has been in development for more than 10 years with a proposed expansion from Oklahoma City to Newton, Kansas to connect two major national routes.

Amtrak itself was created by congress in the 1970s as the private sector passenger network collapsed, and its vision is to deliver a rail network that will offer frequent and reliable train service.

A resolution was passed in May 2020 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives supporting the extension of the passenger rail service. The resolution urged Oklahoma’s congressional delegation to take action in securing funding for the project.

The hope is that this passenger rail service will generate economic and environmental benefits.

BIRTHDAY PARTY AT LAKE PONCA

Caitlyn Meserve, resident of Ponca City, has recently started a Facebook group for children and adults with special needs. The goal of the group is to find ways to socialize and make new friends during this time when getting together is harder than ever.

She is having a birthday party at the Lake Ponca Park Shelter House #2 and would like to invite all residents with disabilities to join the festivities.
