Jun. 2—When the temperature goes up in Oklahoma, that means Free Fishing Days are near.

This year’s Free Fishing Days in Oklahoma, which allow for anyone to fish without a state fishing license, are June 3-4. Anyone may fish in Oklahoma on these days without a state license, except for Lake Texoma and where city permits are required.

Almost 40 years ago, Oklahoma began Free Fishing Days. Since then, other states have joined.

While license restrictions are gone for the weekend, other rules are not. This means those fishing still must follow all other fishing regulations, “including daily bag limits and size restrictions” and staying on public waters and away from private property.

Oklahoma’s Department of Wildlife also notes those participating in Free Fishing Days should check local permit requirements at specific fishing areas like city lakes.

In Duncan, the annual Cops and Bobbers event will take place June 3. The yearly event serves as an opportunity for area youth to learn about fishing while interacting with officers in the area to build everlasting relationships and is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 3 at Lake Humphreys.

Anyone not familiar with fishing can find resources online at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s “Fishing Resources” page. Fishing spots can also be located at www.wildlifedepartment. com/fishing/wheretofish.
