Zackery Jack Waddell, 49 years old, was arrested on October 11, 2020 on the charges of Child Abuse and Resisting Arrest.

According to the affidavit, Waddell’s wife and son were at home on the evening of October 11th, when Waddell came home and his wife could hear a spanking slap noise come from the kitchen. She also heard Waddell yelling at their son.

The affidavit states that she could tell he had been drinking by the way his speech sounded. As the child’s mom went to check on him, she noticed he was crying and he stated that his dad had choked him.

According to the affidavit, the young child was yelled at and choked by his dad for eating ice cream in the kitchen and his father, Waddell, was drunk and upset with him because he thought he was eating ice cream before eating dinner. The son let his dad know that he had in fact already eaten dinner, at which point his father yelled at him and grabbed him under the chin with his right thumb and index finger and choked him.

The affidavit states his mom then came to the kitchen and told her son to go to her room. Waddell, at this time, was being yelled at by his wife to leave and he then followed her to the bedroom, jumped on top of her and took her phone in front of their son.

According to the affidavit, the mom then told her son to run to his grandpa’s house next door to get help. When the grandpa came to the house, Waddell was in the garage and admitted to choking his son due to losing his temper. Zackery Waddell then left the house. The grandfather observed that his daughter was crying and her shirt was torn. They then called the police. Officers observed their were no physical injuries on the mother or son, but did make a referral to a DHS caseworker.

Zackery Waddell was arrested and taken to Kay County Jail for Child Abuse and Resisting Arrest. His bond was set at $25,000 and his Initial Appearance is set for November 13 at 9 a.m. in Kay County District Court.
