Saturday, May 20 will mark the 2nd Annual Mae Fest event held at RLC Farm at 5300 E. Tower Road from 10 am to 5 pm.

The festival will feature a variety of entertainment and activities, as a means of recognizing farmers and in memory of Mae Lidberg, for whom the festival is named for.

Lidberg was born in West Virginia and moved to Colorado where she met her husband who was a Baptist preacher. After moving around the pair moved to the area. Lidberg was very involved in life at the farm, and she also taught Sunday school at the church her husband preached at.

In 2017, Lidberg lost her husband and she was diagnosed with dementia and Parkinson’s. She did the best she could to continue with helping on the farm until her sudden death in December of 2020.

“We’ve got a lot more things we are adding on [this year],” said Tammy Ross, daughter of Mae Lidberg. “[Last year’s festival] was fun, it meant a lot.”

Ross brought together the first festival as a celebration of life for the family, but the event was also put together to recognize the work put in by farmers.

“This really isn’t just for my mom, but for the farmers. It is a lifestyle we’ve chose, or chose us,” said Ross. “This is for all the farmers that work hard ever day.”

The event will feature live music from the band M-Pyre from 11 am to 4 pm, and a variety of games including egg toss, gunny sack races, and a pie eating contest will begin at 2 pm.

There will be activities for children including face painting, a planting station, bounce houses, a petting zoo, and horseback rides by KS Pony Rides.

Several vendors will be available at the festival including LA Vida Linked, Permanent Jewelry, Nova Coffee, and more.

Additionally, RLC Farm will have pork and chicken available for sale.

Admission for the festival is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
