On Sunday and Monday evenings over 200 people got to look through some powerful amateur telescopes at the Ponca City RecPlex at the Planets Jupiter and Saturn as they were in conjunction. This event has been called the Christmas Star and was quite an event to see through a telescope of over 70 times magnification. The rings of Saturn as well as up to four of Jupiter’s moons were visible through the telescopes provided by Ponca City Astronomy. For the next week or so these planets will be visible in the West Southwest just after sunset.

There is a monthly “Sidewalk Astronomy” event held by Ponca City Astronomy during the First Quarter phase of the moon as this is the best time to view the craters and mountains of the moon. The events are held at the Ponca City RecPlex on one evening and at the campground at Lake Ponca the next evening. For the dates and times of these events, follow the facebook page: Ponca City Astronomy. Also we will attempt to post a notice here in the Ponca City News.
