OKLAHOMA CITY, OK— What better way for students to learn about career options than from professionals themselves? This is precisely what will occur during the free World of Work Week event, taking place October 27-29 on the digital platform, FutureLink Oklahoma.

Students and teachers will have the chance to hear from professionals in aerospace, manufacturing, journalism, marketing, communications and data analytics, with more talks being added to the lineup. They’ll learn what specific jobs entail, what kind of education is needed and how to get started. And because the conversations are live, students can ask questions and get immediate feedback from the experts.

“There is no better time for an event like this,” said Oklahoma Public School Resource Center (OPSRC) Executive Director Brent Bushey. “With so many schools still using a virtual learning environment, this event works perfectly for both in-classroom learning as well as remote settings.”

World of Work Week and the hosting platform, FutureLink Oklahoma, also address the critical need to attract students to career fields in which Oklahoma currently lacks qualified applicants. Gaining students’ interest in industries like aerospace will help grow Oklahoma’s economy and job market.

FutureLink Oklahoma, managed by the Oklahoma Public School Resource Center (OPSRC), is designed to provide students the opportunity to virtually connect with professionals through industry chats, customized teacher requests and an extensive video library.

This connection is particularly important for students in more rural areas of the state who may not be aware of career opportunities available to them, especially as more and more companies are offering work from home opportunities.

“All students, no matter where they live, need to know the vast number of options that await them after graduation,” said Bushey. “The World of Work Week and FutureLink Oklahoma can introduce them to jobs they never knew existed.”
