The Kay County 4-H Senior Livestock Judging Team won the Oklahoma State University Livestock Judging contest held on the OSU campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma last fall. The Kay County team was named State Champions. Members of the team were Josie Doshier (Woodlands), Reid Buellesfeld (Blackwell), Hattie Steichen (Ponca City), and Tucker Jeffries (Blackwell).

In the Team Division Awards: Beef Team – 1st, Sheep/Goat Team - 1st, Swine Team – 2nd. Kay County’s team also took 1st in the Questions section.

In the Overall Individual Division Awards: Josie Doshier – 2nd, Reid Buellesfeld – 3rd, Hattie Steichen – 6th, and Tucker Jeffries – 7th.

Kay County Farm Bureau Board of Directors awarded the livestock judging team and their coaches with custom jackets. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau logo, along with their placing Sr. 4-H 1st Place Team, and their name are on the jackets.

Coach Rick Buellesfeld shared this information about the team: “I think this county is really lucky to have the kids we have and they have been fortunate to do as well as they do. The team has accomplished a lot of things and won contests that no one really knows about. They have won contests all over Oklahoma as well as Kansas and some national contests. The Kay County Livestock Judging teams won 8 out of 9 possible individual high placings in the Kansas contest this last year. The teams have learned about how to win as well as lose. Everyone needs to understand that when a team places over the Kay County teams they have done really well, which helps our team to strive harder. They appreciate being able to bring the wins home to our county and appreciate Kay County Farm Bureau supporting them. There is no guarantee the teams will always place to win a jacket recognizing their accomplishments, so they really appreciate the recognition.” Coach Rick said he and co-coach Randy Buellesfeld love standing in the back of the room watching the teams be presented their awards. That is our paycheck and reward.

Stacy Simunek, Kay County Farm Bureau Board of Directors’ president said, “We are proud to present the jackets to the Kay County Livestock Judging teams, as we have been able to do the last several years.”
