Grand Lake Mental Health Center, Inc. (GLMHC) announces the Addiction Medicine certification of Board-Certified Psychiatrist, Dr. W. John Mallgren, effective January 1, 2020. Dr. Mallgren is the Medical Director of GLMHC in Ponca City, OK and has been providing gold standard care to the people of Oklahoma for 21 years.

The American Board of Preventative Medicine states that, “Addiction Medicine is concerned with the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of persons with the disease of addiction, of those with substance-related health conditions, and of people who show unhealthy use of substances including nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications and other licit and illicit drugs.”

The certification in Addiction Medicine is rare, with less than one percent of U.S. physicians being certified*, allowing Dr. Mallgren and GLMHC to provide high quality, enhanced substance abuse treatment to those struggling with addiction, and advanced treatment for their families as well.

GLMHC has increased efforts to help those struggling with opioid addiction and other substance use addictions with various programs such as the Medication Assisted Treatment, which provides Buprenorphine/Naloxone medication management and maintenance, along with overdose and prevention training. Substance use and co-occurring intensive outpatient treatment services are offered in all twelve counties served by GLMHC, Craig, Delaware, Kay, Mayes, Noble, Nowata, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Payne, Rogers and Washington.
