David Corenswet has officially been chosen to portray Superman while Rachel Brosnahan will take on the role of Lois Lane in Warner Bros’ and DC Studios’ upcoming “Superman: Legacy.”

The decisions were announced Tuesday, after months of audition tapes and in-person screen tests, reports Deadline.

Corenswet and Brosnahan were among the few individuals selected to audition in full costume and makeup for DC co-chairs Peter Safran and James Gunn, who is also directing the film.

Sources close to production revealed that both actors had test deals set to expire after two business weeks, indicating the urgency to finalize casting before the potential SAG-AFTRA strike, which could begin June 30.

While Warner Bros has not yet stated whether it will attend the upcoming Comic-Con in San Diego, there’s a possibility that Corenswet and Brosnahan may be introduced during the studio’s Hall H panel. However, if there is a strike, the actors would not be allowed to participate in any such events.

Now that Corenswet and Brosnahan have secured the two key roles, Gunn is reportedly shifting his focus toward casting Superman’s archnemesis, Lex Luthor, and other supporting roles.

Earlier this year, Gunn and Safran unveiled their plan for the initial phase of their cross-platform DC slate titled “Chapter One, Gods and Monsters,” with “Superman: Legacy” taking center stage in the new strategy.

The presentation also included details about upcoming films, including “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” helmed by director Andy Muscietti, and “The Authority,” based on the comic books of the same name.

For Corenswet, “Superman” marks his first leading role in a major studio production, following projects like “Pearl,” “The Politician,” and “We Own This City.”

Brosnahan recently concluded her acclaimed role in Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which garnered her numerous accolades, including an Emmy win.
