Hospice to host “The Journey to Healing after a Loss” support group

Hospice of North Central Oklahoma will host a six week grief support group entitled “The Journey to Healing after a Loss” beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The group will meet at Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Avenue, Ponca City from noon to 1:15 pm each Wednesday concluding on March 8.

Parent Preview Night scheduled for Growth & Development and HIV/AIDS for Ponca City Schools

The Ponca City Public School District Nurses have scheduled a parent preview night for parents/guardians who would like to review the material that will be discussed and presented at the upcoming Growth and Development and HIV/AIDS classes. The date scheduled for parents to preview materials is Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Administration Building located at 613 East Grand Avenue in Ponca City. Attendees are asked to enter the building through the west door as the preview will take place in the Board Room. The Ponca City School Nurse Consultants will be presenting this information.

A formerly homeless man’s journey from shelters, hotels and cars to housing

D’Metryus Freeman, 27, is no stranger to homelessness. He remembers living for eight months in a hotel in Virginia. As a young adult in Oklahoma City, Freeman said he lived with family in cars, hotels, shelters, and on the street in between periods where he was able to find housing. He moved into an apartment in northeast Oklahoma City in December with the help of the Homeless Alliance and started a job at Curbside Flowers, which provides employment to people transitioning out of homelessness.

Pioneer Tech Children’s Lab receives top accreditation

Ponca City, OK ----- The Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) Children’s Lab has once again received accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) program. Oklahoma has only 53 early childhood programs that boast this accomplishment. This honor signifies high standards of early childhood education for the Children’s Lab. For nearly 90 years, NAEYC has worked to raise the quality of programs for all children from birth through age eight. A major part of the association’s efforts is to improve early childhood education through different systems of accreditation for programs that are committed to meeting national standards of quality.
