A ‘chaotic’ January? Congress faces two shutdown deadlines with no action yet on spending

Body
Oklahoma Republican Rep. Tom Cole said using another stopgap spending bill, or a series of them, to fund the government — instead of passing the 12 fullyear bills — is “very possible.” By JENNIFER SHUTT Oklahoma Voice WASHINGTON — Congress is staring down a funding cliff in mid-January and a second one in early February, but neither of those deadlines have inspired House and Senate leaders to broker agreement on the dozen bills that were supposed to become law by Oct.

What a wonderful Children’s Christmas program this past Sunday. Considering that the children did not have much practice time with our coordinator, Joyce Moore, each of the participating groups did a great presentation. They memorized their songs which each group sang Capello. We are truly blessed to have children that are willing to be in front of a congregation to share the Christmas message in song and telling of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our pianist, Karen Myers, played the music when congregational participation was needed. As I think back to the year when I was called as the Pastor, 2008, I suddenly realized that all these children were not born at that time. We love our young couples that are coming and give of their time to assist where needed in the programs that we have for children. We are blessed to have a very dedicated group of people who faithfully donate to the ministry of Burbank, First Baptist. In October of this year, Kay Baptist Association held their annual meeting. The material handed out contained a summary of the annual giving the 20 churches and missions make to the work of the Association. I was shocked to learn that our church is the third highest in dollar giving to the Association. We give 5% of undesignated money to Kay Baptist and 5% to the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. My friends, we are one of the smallest churches in the Association. I know that it is extremely difficult for churches to maintain their budgets. I believe we have discovered you cannot out give God. Our church family gives as they have been blessed and by the grace of God our storehouse keeps getting replenished. To God be the glory, great things He has done.

For those needing to renew their license or tag, I’ve got some exciting news. Service Oklahoma has launched a new virtual check-in system at many of their locations statewide, and the new system will be live at all locations by the end of the year, including in Ponca City. This will allow customers to check-in on their phone then go about their day and be able to check their place in line and return before their service time. This is a great, innovative new service that will save people time from standing in line. Visit their website at https:// oklahoma.gov/service.html for more information.
