Dorothy Gene (Genie) Turner passed away on July 29, 2023. She was 97 years old. A memorial service will be held at the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ on August 19th at 11:00 am.

Genie was born Dorothy Gene Smith on July 20, 1926, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She attended Ardmore Public Schools through the 11th grade. The family relocated to Oklahoma City where Genie graduated from Central High School. Following graduation, she moved back to Ardmore and worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and later for Oklahoma Gas and Electric. She then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and worked for the Sandia Laboratory and later as a draftsman for the City of Albuquerque.

Genie decided to go to college in 1975 to become a Radiologic Technologist. After two years of study, she completed her certification at Los Angeles City College. She then worked for Los Angeles Kaiser Hospital and also for the college in Northridge. Later she worked for Huntington Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles in various x-ray department positions.

In 1990 Genie retired as a Specialist Technician in the Cat Scan field and moved to Ponca City to care for her mother, Faye Smith. She worked part time for an orthopedic surgeon, and for several years she volunteered at the Via Christi Medical Center. She chose to remain in Ponca City after her mother’s death.

Genie said she had a wonderful church family at the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ and many good friendships in Ponca City.

Genie is preceded in death by her father and mother, Gene and Faye Smith and her husband, Ted Turner.

Memorial contributions can be given in her name to the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ, 1905 Joe Street, Ponca City, OK, 74601-2024.
