Superheroes, dragons and sci-fi warriors will continue to make their way to the screen this year. But the shows I’m most excited about are grounded in reality, while still promising to boldly go where few series have gone before. Here are 10 to mark on your calendar.

It’s last swim for the troubled DC Extended Universe, planned for an overall rethink, as Jason Momoa returns as the King of Atlantis in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” In some important ways, the sequel laps the original. In others, it — and its mega-franchise — seem destined to sink without a ripple.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas this past weekend, and a happy New Year this weekend. The end of the year is typically when awards season nominations and speculation begin with regard to the film industry, as the various films from the last year are assessed for their various qualities such as direction, performances, VFX, score, etc.

Snyder makes soulless ‘Star Wars’ Filmmaker Zack Snyder finally has brought to the screen an idea he’s had since his college days for a “Star Wars”-like space opera. While “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” — hitting Netflix this week, after a limited theatrical run, and to be followed in April on the streaming service by “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” — also was influenced by “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Dirty Dozen” and more, it shares much with the 1977 film now titled “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.” There’s a malevolent galactic empire.

Oklahoma Arts Institute’s Student Art Show to Appear in Alva Oklahoma City, Okla., Oklahoma high school students are displaying artwork at the Graceful Arts Center in Alva from January 5th-30th in conjunction with the Oklahoma Arts Institute’s Tour de Quartz exhibition. Graceful Arts Center is located at 523 Barnes Ave.
