James F. (Jay) Lawson Jr., age 64, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 2, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Jay was born August 7, 1959 to James F. Sr. and Loretta Lawson in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

He grew up in Ponca City, where he met and married Lisa Tapp on April 18, 1989. They had one son, Blake.

He was a loyal, hard-working man. He worked at various jobs before becoming an auto mechanic for over 30 years. He was most recently employed as a security guard at Phillips refinery until his health forced his retirement.

In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, water skiing, hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake (especially visiting family in Lake Ozark, MO), and family vacations to Colorado. Throughout his life he loved history, reading history books, and sharing his vast knowledge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Lisa; son Blake and companion Alyssa Rice; brother Mark and wife Margie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 18, from 2-5 pm, at the Carolyn Renfro Event Center, with Chaplain Justin Pickup officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of County Cremations. Interment services will be at Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Park.
