Tuesday was Homecoming Night at Po-Hi’s Robson Field House and Ponca City’s varsity basketball teams came away with one win and one loss.

In the opener, it was no contest as the Ponca City Lady Cats drubbed the Enid Pacers 67-29. The second game was closer, but Enid emerged with a 61-47 win over the Wildcats.

In the Homecoming celebration, Carlie Badley was crowned Queen and Culley Porter was the King.

GIRLS GAME

Ponca City rolled off 21 points in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Cats’ defense bottled up Enid’s offensive effort as the Pacers had difficulty putting points on the scoreboard.

The Lady Cat lead was 21-7 after one quarter and 42-13 at the half. Enid was guilty of fouling as it tried to blunt the Lady Cat offensive attack and it paid for it. The Lady Cats hit 17 of 21 free throw attempts during the first half. The third quarter was more of the same as Ponca City’s lead expanded to 60-19. Coach Jody Fincher pulled all of his starters in the fourth period and Enid outscored Ponca City 10-7 in that frame.

Ashlynn Fincher led Ponca City’s scoring with 19 points. Also in double figures were Carlie Badley with 12 and Emma Gertken with 11. Freshman Kyra Allison had 10 rebounds.

“I thought it was a great team win,” Lady Cat Coach Fincher said. “The girls got after Enid from the start. Ashlynn and Carlie got us going on offense and Trinity (Regnier) led us on the defensive end of the floor. Emma played well and Kyra and Sarah (Dingus) really brought the energy tonight. I was really proud of our bench as they took care of their business in the JV game and carried over into the varsity game.”

Ponca City bumped its overall record to 7-6, while Enid dropped to 1-11.

BOYS GAME

Enid led pretty much all the way in posting its victory over Ponca City. But the Plainsmen were unable to put a comfortable distance between themselves and the Wildcats, finally winning by 14 (61-47).

The Plainsmen have had a lot of difficulty with their schedule and had played only seven games before Tuesday’s contest. They raised some eyebrows last week when they pushed a very good Putnam City North team to the very end with a monster rally in the fourth quarter. Tuesday’s win over Ponca City gave Enid a 4-4 mark for the year.

Enid led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Plainsmen had led 16-6, but Ponca City put on an 8-0 run to pull within two at the end of the period. The Plainsmen led 32-25 at the half and 44-34 after three quarters.

Ponca City cut the Enid lead to two points twice in the third quarter, but never was able to wrest away the lead.

Steven Faulkner, with 14 points, and Marshaun Webb, with 11, reached double figurescoring for the Wildcats.

Putnam City North is on the schedule for Friday for games in Robson.

“It was an awesome night for homecoming and the setup was beautiful,” Wildcat Coach Ivan McFarlin said. “Thanks to all the parents and students involved. Thank you student section for being loud and for cheering our boys on. Congrats to both JV and varsity girls on their wins and for playing hard. Our men played tough but just couldn’t finish the game out. These boys will get better and be ready for PC North. Thanks to all who came out to the game.”
