WARR ACRES-- The Ponca City Lady Cats scored early and scored often in their 69-37 romp over the Putnam City Original Pirates Tuesday night.

Ponca City went on a 17-0 run after the early score was 3-2, to put a huge distance between themselves and Putnam City. The score at the end of the first quarter was 26-5.

The Lady Cats added 15 points to their total in the second period and led at the half 41-10. The beat down continued in the third quarter as Ponca City scored another 19 to lead 60-17. At that point, Coach Jody Fincher substituted liberally to allow his bench players to get playing time.

Emma Gertken, who struggled with her three-point shooting in last week’s tournament games at Ada, found the range and led Ponca City in scoring with 21 points. Kyra Allison joined her in double-figure scoring, finishing with 12. Most of Allison’s points came in the early surge.

Ponca City, who often has struggled with turning the ball over, benefited from its good defensive play, causing 18 Putnam City turnovers in the first half.

The Lady Cats expanded their record to 5-7 on the season. Next will be a home game against Midwest City on Friday.
