Improvements are being made at the Po-Hi softball field near West Middle School, and the baseball field on the school campus.

According to Jason Leavitt, executive director of operations for Ponca City Public Schools, the cost of each of the projects is approximately $1.5 million.

At the softball field, the bleachers will be extended, a press box with room for an announcer, scorekeeper and home and away media representatives will be built, in addition to a concession stand and coaches office. Railing systems are being added for both home and away dugouts and the home dugout will be extended.

In a later phase, more parking and fencing will be added, larger rest room facilities will be added and a new ticket booth constructed.

Leavitt noted that the baseball facility improvements are similar.

Among the work being done is a new press box and concession stand. The press box will have room for a scorekeeper and announcer and representatives of the press, both home and away. To be added in are new rest rooms, a ticket booth and an awning that will encompass the first base area’s upper walkway.

“Our hope is to give our kids and community great facilities of which they can be proud,” Leavitt said. “We appreciate our community.”
