In Loving Memory of Shirley Rae Smith

Shirley Rae Smith, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on January 17th, 2024, at her home in Ponca City, Oklahoma surrounded by her family. Born on July 8, 1931, on a family farm in Skedee, Oklahoma, Shirley’s life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and cherished moments.

Shirley graduated from Blackburn High School in 1949 and embarked on a career at the Telephone Company in Fairfax, Oklahoma. On October 9th, 1954, she married the love of her life, Willard Ray Smith, with whom she shared many joyous years until his passing.

Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother to her sons Tim, Terry, and Tony Smith. Her presence enriched the lives of her grandchildren Jason, Nicole, Ashley, and Courtney Smith, and her legacy continued through her four great-grandchildren Aspen, Hendrix, Swayze, and Brighton Smith.

Active and engaged, Shirley found immense pleasure in attending the various activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether cheering at games, applauding at plays, or being a proud audience member at recitals, she was a constant source of love and support.

Beyond her family, Shirley had a special bond with her loyal companion, Rowdy, her cherished dog. Together, they shared countless moments of companionship and comfort.

In addition to her family, Shirley cherished reminiscing about her upbringing in Blackburn and the joy of living near the river. These memories held a special place in her heart and were often shared with those who knew her.

Shirley is survived by her sister Beverly Carter of Wichita, Kansas, her sons Tim, Terry, and Tony Smith, her grandchildren Jason, Nicole, Ashley, and Courtney Smith, and her four great-grandchildren Aspen, Hendrix, Swayze, and Brighton Smith.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Hendrix, her mother, Goldie Hendrix, and her husband, Willard Smith.

A graveside service to honor and remember Shirley Rae Smith will be held on January 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairfax Cemetery.

May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and memories she created.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Humanity Hospice, Precise Home Health, and special friend Kimberly Jensen.
