Sharon Lee Stuemky, 67, of Ponca City, OK, died on January 27, 2024. Sharon was born on August 6, 1956 to James L. Resor and Patsy R. Resor in La Crosse, Kansas. Sharon’s childhood was well-traveled and lived on multiple continents across this globe in her younger years. Oklahoma, Montana, England, Germany, Qatar and Malaysia are a few of the places they called home. In her teens, Sharon eventually landed in Ponca City where she graduated from Ponca City High School in 1974. After a stint at Oklahoma State University, she moved back to Ponca City and met Douglas Stuemky. They were married there in 1978 and began their family a year later. All of their children were raised in Ponca City and graduated from Po-Hi. Throughout the years, Sharon was a working mom, but that label is incomplete. She wore many hats: mom to many (biological, or not), hair dresser, counselor, church volunteer, stray animal lover, friend, nursing home ministry volunteer, and more recently an avid supporter of New Life Trails ministry where she was able to combine her love of horses with her love of serving people in need.

When Sharon’s kids were younger, you would often find her on the sidelines of their sporting events providing plenty of passionate feedback to all involved whether that was her child, the officials, or the coach-which was normally her husband, Doug. She was a competitor through and through in her younger years.

Sharon was also one of the most empathetic souls you could know. She would drop everything in a moment to help a hurting animal, child, grandkid, friend or complete stranger. She made trips from one coast to the other to make sure someone in need had a helping hand. All the while, she made sure to do her absolute best to keep her hair clients-which often became an extension of her family- permed, trimmed, and emotionally or spiritually encouraged.

Sharon loved her church family! Admittedly, she wasn’t completely sure about serving in the 5 year old room initially, but that uncertainty was quickly displaced with love for these little people with big personalities. She now had a captive audience of kids to love on and that made her heart full. Sharon dearly loved her small group and friendships within. She spoke about them regularly with anyone willing to listen and have been a pivotal part of her family and faith.

If you ever wanted to witness any form of ‘extreme love’, look no further than Sharon’s interactions with her husband and kids. Words to describe her within the family unit are: mamma bear, servant, counselor, prayer warrior, and purveyor of unconditional love. Sharon lived much of her adult life in pain after many surgeries-but her love for her family kept her in constant movement and pursuit of bettering their lives any way she could.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Stuemky of Ponca City, OK; children: Matthew Stuemky and wife Annie of Cashion, Nikki Larson of Edmond, Michael Stuemky and wife Aura of Norman, Caleb Stuemky of Edmond, and Aaron Stuemky of Stockholm, Sweden; 8 grandchildren; siblings: Kenneth Resor and wife Deborah of Flagler Beach, Florida, Norman Resor and wife Connie of Ponca City; Aunt Ola Elmore of Temple, Tx. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.
