Olaf Martin “Marty” Stokke, Jr., 79, of Ponca City, OK, passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2021. He was born May 3, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Olaf Martin and Bereniece (Eitel) Stokke. Marty graduated from Lincoln High School and earned bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. While in college Marty met Victoria Lu Varvel, the love of his life. They married February 22, 1969 in Lincoln and made their home in Ponca City, where Marty had begun working for Conoco. Marty worked in Petrochemicals for two years and then transferred to Production Research, where he spent the majority of his twenty-eight years with Conoco. Marty retired as a Senior Staff Engineer in Drilling Technology.

A truly kind, gentle man with a sweet, loving soul and a great sense of humor, Marty was unequivocally devoted to his faith and his family. He and Vicki raised two daughters, Julianne and Karen. Marty was an active member of First United Methodist Church and was fascinated by the interconnections between science and faith. Marty’s wide-ranging interests included bird watching, growing fruit, collecting comics, reading science fiction, and enjoying good films. He especially loved time with family, orchestral music, and vacations in the mountains of Colorado. Marty was always a dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather.

Marty is survived by his wife, Vicki; daughters Julianne Stokke Boren (daughter Evalynn) of Minot, ND, and Karen Stokke of Ayer, MA; niece DeEtte Person (Larry) of Scottsdale, AZ, and three great-nieces, Anna, Rebecca, and Mia. Marty was preceded in death by his sister, Velda Deane Stokke, on January 23, 2021.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 71, Ponca City, OK 74602).
