James C “Jim” Ewing, 69 of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away tragically from a stroke on Friday, August 19, 2022 at AllianceHealth Ponca City. He was born February 18, 1953 in Boise City, OK the sixth child of Frank and Gertrude (Rich) Ewing. Jim joined the United States Marines immediately after graduating from Guymon, OK in 1971. At 23 he married Debra Katherine (Rice) and they went on to have three daughters. Jim served 20 years in the Marine Corps and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. Jim enjoyed being fully immersed in his children’s life after retirement and often planned family camping trips and enjoying the simpler things. He had a passion for technology and history, always working on his computer or researching family genealogy. He often quizzed his family on historical facts and loved sharing silly jokes with the grandkids. Jim’s greatest joy was being able to watch his grandkids grow and spoil them.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ella Baldonado, Tina Baldonado, Joyce Williams and Twila Oxford and brothers Frank Ewing, Jr, Gary Ewing, Michael Ewing, Sandy Ewing and Billy Ewing. James is survived by his wife and daughters: Christina Pruett of Mesa, AZ; AnitaRei Dutton and Jamie Ewing, both of Ponca City, OK. He was lovingly known as “Papa Jim” by many but especially his 12 grandchildren: Caleb Crist (Mesa, AZ); Kathryn Ewing (Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ); James (Noah) Ewing and wife Chris (Flagstaff, AZ); Rebekah (Dutton) Cornejo and husband Julian (Atlanta, GA); Samantha Pruett, Dakota Pruett, James Cody Pruett, all of Mesa, AZ; Mary Dutton, Matthew Dutton and Dezi Jones, all of Ponca City, OK. Jim is also survived by 4 sisters Jesse Japhet (Lamar, CO) Sue Hogan, Doris Oxford, both of Garfield, AR, and Alice Rich (Decatur, AR) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. After honoring Jim’s wishes of being an organ donor, he will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at the Lake Ponca Duck Pond Pavilion on Saturday, September 10, at 4PM for anyone that would like to attend with a private burial at a later date.
