After college Don served his country during the VietNam War as an Army Staff Sergeant from 1968 to 1970. He built many projects for ConocoPhillips through the years and he had the reputation of getting each job done to its particular specifications which made his business a success for decades. Don received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Ponca City, Rotary Club and he was recognized several years for outstanding service and performance from Conoco Phillips.
