Darrell R James, loving husband of Bobbie Evans James and loving dad of Terry L James, Dallas and Darrla K James, Stillwater, walked into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on July 23, 2022.

Darrell was born 9/20/40 in Tonkawa, OK, the son of Arthur James and Wanda Looper James.

He grew up in Cashion, Ponca City, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, graduating from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. He enrolled in an electronic class after graduating, thinking he would go into that field. But after finishing that class he went to work for Midwestern Instruments in Tulsa where he made little tiny instruments that were used to steer submarines. While working there he married the love of his life, Bobbie Evans in 1959. Both were teens and though some said that marriage would never last, they were married 62 and a half years. That life together took them to El Paso, Texas where Darrell had several jobs. Among them was a milk route and working at a gas station. Jobs were hard to find then. He finally was hired by Standard Oil Co. in El Paso and worked there for four years, was transferred to Carlsbad, NM where they lived five years. They were going to be transferred back to El Paso but didn’t want to move back there so loaded up everything and moved back to Oklahoma, settling in Ponca City. Darrell went to work at Prudential Insurance where he stayed for 26 years and retired. He then went to work for Sykes in Ponca City and retired from there after 10 years. He then went to work for Northeast Baptist Church part time, but ended up working full time for five years and then retiring again. he had a mowing business and you could see him around town on his John Deere mower. He loved to mow.

He was a deacon of Northeast Baptist and took that very seriously Darrell loved God with all his heart.

Darrell became an Ambuc and was so proud of that. He was track manager of the Ambuc motor cross for two or three years. He loved working on the track. He earned his big hat and wore it proudly.

Darrell served his country proudly and you could see him put the American flag out every morning and take it down in the evening.

He joined National Guard when he was 15, lying about his age. His mother singed for him to get in. He served proudly for six years.

Darrel is survived by his loving wife, both children, sisters-in-law, Pat Tebrinke, Marlene Evans, Sandra and Jim Adkins, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Dorthy Gibson, Freda Payne, Harold James, Gary James and Pop Bob Evans and Mom Emma Evans and sister-in-law Donna Evans.

Memorial service will be Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10 am at Northeast Baptist Church.
