Charles Raymond “Ray” Langdale, age 79, long time Newkirk, Oklahoma resident passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 in his hometown, Arkansas City, Kansas.

A graveside ceremony to gratefully remember Ray’s life will be held at 3:00PM Friday, October 30, 2020 at Newkirk Cemetery with Gale Rider officiating. Casket bearers will be Keith Parr, Brian Deibler, Dustin Glenn, and Brian Roe. Honorary casket bearers are Brad Diebler, Darren Sloan, John Crymes, and Jeff Crymes. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Please have flowers sent to the cemetery between 2 and 2:30pm on Friday.

Ray was born in Arkansas City, Kansas to Ruth Hazel (Shipman) Langdale Fuhr and Earl Alfonso Langdale on February 19, 1941. Both of Ray’s parents were deaf, which provided not only a unique household, but a foundation for the love and care he would provide his wife Nancy. He grew up in Arkansas City Kansas along with his older brother Bob. His hard work ethic began with a paper route that he ran daily. The fruits of his paper route funded his love of roller skating as a child. Fishing and bowling were other pursuits Ray enjoyed when he was younger. Ray graduated AC High School with the Class of 1959. While in high school, he participated in in the production and printing of the Ark Light, belonged to the Letterman’s Club, and participated in Football and Track. After high school, he worked for Gilliland print shop while attending Cowley College and received an Associate Degree. Then, Ray joined the Army National Guard, spending 2 years. He soon met his wife Nancy S. Lambing at Scott’s Station west of Arkansas City. Their first date was Arkalalah Saturday in 1964. 3 years later, they were married on January 14, 1967. They made their home in Newkirk Oklahoma. Soon, Ray was employed by John Morrel Packing Plant and then came along their daughter Tammy in 1970 and son Tony in 1971. When the packing plant closed, Ray went on to work for Eddie Harris then the Kay County Courthouse, and later with the city of Newkirk water Dept. He retired from his final fulltime job as a maintenance worker with the Newkirk Public Schools. After retirement, Ray loved working part-time at the Greenfield Greenhouse in Newkirk. Ray adored his family above all else and worked hard to care for them, as well as enjoying the precious time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Gardening was another of Ray’s hobbies. He loved sharing his produce with friends and family. His love and respect of the outdoors, God’s creation, was something he instilled in his family as he taught them to hunt and fish in the beautiful places.

Survivors include his children: Robin Langdale of San Diego, Calif. Tammy Dowler and husband Roy “Junior” of Arkansas City, KS and Tony Langdale and wife Tawnya of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Riley Dowler and wife Kota, Brock Dowler, Whitney Langdale and Taylor Langdale, as well as one Great granddaughter Margo.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, parents Earl Langdale and Ruth Fuhr, stepdad John Fuhr, and brother Bob.
