Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge soon to close crystal digging season
The Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge was established in March of 1930 and originally encompassed the majority of the salt flats in Oklahoma. Through the construction of the Great Salt Plains Reservoir by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and through the purchase of lands with funds from the federal Duck Stamp, the refugee was expanded.
