People don’t need to be beer drinkers to enjoy the Real Okie Craft Beer Festival.

The festival, which runs 6 to 9 p.m. June 4 at Hatbox Event Center, will feature live entertainment and a variety of food trucks.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. A $40 VIP ticket includes early entry into the event, as well as a souvenir pint glass.

Friends of Honor Heights Park President Matt Abel said about 12 craft beer vendors are expected. All are from Oklahoma breweries, including Anthem Brewing Co., The Cape Brewing Co, Bierkraft and Elk Valley Brewing Co.

The Muskogee trio RV&H will perform.

Abel said the festival will have a single stage, but multiple places to sit and enjoy the music.

“If people bring their kids, they can still come in, go to the food trucks,” Abel said. “There will be a separate entrance from where the beer is.”

Only people 21 and older will be allowed in the beer tasting area, said Muskogee Parks and Recreation Director Mark Wilkerson.

Abel said the festival will be one of the city’s first large events since COVID-19 restrictions have been eased.

“We’re really leaning on this Beer Fest to see how well it does to see how we can do future events,” Abel said. “We’re looking forward to this because people are starting to get out.”

Friends of Honor Heights helps fund such events as December’s Garden of Lights, as well as landscaping and other improvements. Recents improvements included new sidewalks around a pond, he said.

Friends of Honor Heights board members have ideas for other events.

“We’ve been talking about having a car show,” he said. “We’ve been talking about having live music nights during the week, food truck nights. We’ve also been talking about wine tasting.”

Honor Heights will host the Muskogee Community Band at its annual Symphony in the Park concert, 7 p.m. June 5.

Abel said Honor Heights “is the gem of our city.”

“In northeast Oklahoma, we have so many parks, but Honor Heights is one of its own,” he said. “It definitely has its own character and wonderful history.”

Wilkerson said Honor Heights has been a Muskogee asset for more than 100 years “providing education and entertainment for families, a community resource, and a destination for tourists from across the state, region and nation.”
