The Ponca City RecPlex provides quality recreation and leisure opportunities with the goal of developing healthy minds, bodies, and enhancing quality of life.

Ponca City Park and Recreation was in need of having kayak seats rep laced, repaired or newly upholstered last summer. Ryan Hafen , recreation superintendent, was in search of someone to meet that need. This led him to contact Yasmin Williams, owner of Tonkawa Custom Sewing, a business in Tonkawa. Williams did the repairs for the kayak seats, then was asked to see what she could do with the equipment benches and chairs inside the RecPlex.

"We are very proud of the facility for our community being a full service health and wellness center. We have a full range of programs to achieve wellness and fitness goals. I feel like it is top notch with the best programs and customer service. We partner with local vendors and businesses to make sure we are being good stewards of the tax money we receive and to make shopping local a priority," said Hafen.

Williams's first job was the kayak seat repairs. "Mr. Hafen approached me about the lounge chairs in the RecPlex, and he is very thrifty," said Williams. She inspected the chairs and the wood frames were well made. She had some material left over from another project, very durable fabric that would go well with the carpet and the price would be very affordable for each chair. Williams appreciated Mr. Hafen requesting information about re-upholstering and looking for affordable alternatives to save money.

Williams has recovered equipment bench seats; wear on the workout equipment bench is expected and instead of buying new seats, having them repaired locally helps keep the cost low along with a quick installation. The lounging chairs had a vinyl covering and they were reupholstered with a different fabric that would last longer.

RexPlex invites the public to visit and to take advantage of the numerous health and fitness re sources offered. The RecPlex offers a youth scholarship program to help youth who meet the requirements. For more information contact the Parks and Recreation office located at the RecPlex, 1604 W.
