The third of six session in a series called “Living with Alzheimer’s” will be held at the Carolyn Renfro Event Center located at 445 Fairview in Ponca City. A light lunch will be served at 11:30 am and the program will begin at noon.

The current population of Oklahoma is 3.987 million, of that number, 490,000 are caregivers. Dementia is a challenge for those living with it, as well as the caregiver and their family.

Dementia describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common cause of dementia, but not the only one.

Guinan will discuss the symptoms and care needs that arise in the middle stage of Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as the relationship changes that occur within families as the disease progresses. He will also discuss planning for emergencies and managing challenging behaviors.
