After 16 years in downtown Ponca City, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore will soon be relocating, and now the hunt is on for a new storefront to continue to help serve the community. The building that the ReStore is currently housed within has been sold, and there is a nonspecific timeline within which they will need to move out.

Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore is a local used hardware store and furniture depot that was located at 117 W. Central and was built on years of donations from locals. These donations kept many useful household items from being thrown away so that the materials could be repurposed and reused as less expensive home improvement items. This provided an important community service by recycling materials instead of having them end up in a landfill.

The ReStore also helped by employing individuals with particular stipulations on their workload, providing them with the opportunity to make an income while serving their community as well.

Over the years, Habitat for Humanity in Ponca City has built 31 homes, completed eight home repairs, and impacted 39 families, all of this with only 23 volunteers. The ReStore’s business is integral to this process as they have partially financed the construction of these homes with proceeds from their sales.

In doing this, Habitat for Humanity are a self-sufficient organization that has never had to fundraise or actively ask for financial help from sponsors.

Habitat for Humanity is now in need of support from the community for assistance in finding a new facility that meets their needs. To accommodate their inventory, as well as ease of pickups and drop-offs, the group is looking for a facility that is roughly 5000 square feet with a shop door already installed or capability to be installed.

Those with an available facility may reach out by contacting the ReStore at 580-765-2974, or Stan Brown at 580-7622301.

To learn more about what the organization does, or those interested in becoming a volunteer may do so by either calling the above numbers or by visiting the Habitat for Humanity also has a website at www.poncacityhabitat. org.
